It was an evening of glitz and celebration as leading organizations and individuals were recognized for their outstanding contributions at the Governance, Risk, Compliance (GRC) and Financial Crime Prevention (FINCRIME) Awards, held recently in Lagos.

Renowned economist, philanthropist, and entrepreneur Tony Elumelu was named Influencer of the Year, while Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award.

In the Energy, Oil and Gas category, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited was honoured for its excellence in governance and compliance. The Woman in Governance, Risk, and Compliance Award went to Beauty Mtonga, a seasoned executive director in the banking and financial sector.

Summit on Localizing GRC for Africa’s Growth

Earlier in the day, the event featured a high-level summit themed “Sovereign Systems and Street-Level Compliance: Localising GRC for Africa’s Next Frontier.”

The summit aimed to equip businesses particularly financial institutions—with the tools and insights needed to strengthen compliance frameworks and uphold financial crime prevention standards across Africa.

Women Urged to Celebrate Their Achievements

A senior compliance and anti–money laundering specialist, Bawo Egbakhumeh, urged women to celebrate their accomplishments and take pride in their progress.
